Unable to Add Contact in Office Communicator

When you try to add a Contact to Office Communicator,  the following error is displayed:

Operation could not be completed.

Cannot complete the search. An unidentified error has occurred. Please try again later. If the problem persists, please contact your system administrator.

Depending upon your configuration, there may be various possible reasons. However, there is a faster and better way to add contacts. In the search field under "Type a note" simply begin typing the desired contact and click and drag contacts listed below to the All Contacts group.
