Editor's Corner
In February,
we assisted two clients with major equipment failure. Without
Recovery®, they would have
had major business loss. So other than a tape what are you doing
for business continuity? For those of you with Exchange 2007, it
looks like Leap Year was a bug which prevented adding users
during that day. This month is about stopping the insanity of
technology chaos and business risk. Along with basketball, green
beer, and corporate taxes - don't lose sight of virtualization
to help your business.
Arrgh Ye Pirates and Scalawags
There is a Pirate Code,
but it is really just a "guideline". Pirates have a lust for
treasure, care not for laws especially of property, and are
judged by status and loot. Sounds a lot like our popular
society. Now add that employees want MySpace or Facebook,
messenger, and easy company system/data access. All of this puts
companies at risk.
If you think that is just
business and it is management's problem, then you are a pirate
too. Money, customers, company transactions and secrets are not
yours to take. Worse yet, a pirate steals from all around them
and everyone associated is a victim.
So what do you do?
1) Implement web filtering and
monitoring. Where do your employees go on the Internet? If you
can't answer this question then you're at high risk for hostile
work environment suit, significant productivity loss, leakage of
confidential information.
2) Implement presence and not
just Messenger. Are you tired of e-mail flood, not knowing who
is available, and wondering about what is coming and going
through instant messaging? With presence, there are no
additional passwords, file attachments can be blocked, simple
questions answered right away, and you can focus more on
business rather than answering e-mail.
3) Secure your data with a
portal. Do you have a record of who opens and changes files and
can you prevent anyone from taking a flash drive and downloading
critical information? Those file permissions with virtually
everyone having access to customer information is no longer
acceptable.
4) Educate yourself and staff. Is
your IT staff or service provider formally educated, could they
pass a FBI background check, are they credit worthy, and do you
have sufficient information that your business would survive
without them? Your staff should affirm company policy at each
logon and have regular information provided about
confidentiality and ethics. Annually, just like taxes you should
have a review of your technology infrastructure.
30 Years of Client Success
In 1978, our firm began
providing data collection solutions for manufacturing and
distribution clients. Early on were examples like American
Airlines saving over $10M per year with tool crib tracking and
Goodyear Tires increasing shipping from 60K tires per day to 66K
with wireless terminals and bar code scanning. Over the years, a
network often had to be implemented and applications integrated.
Security and trusted personnel with FBI background checks soon
became the most common need. Today, we help professional
service, financial, industry, and government serve their
customers. The hallmark of our success continues to be putting
the client first and our proprietary methodology, Delta®.
We have numerous alumni over the years and our staff does
change over time as our employees learn more skills in 3 years
than most IT personnel achieve in a career. However, best
practice customer service and process, along with efficient
technology keeps customer satisfaction high. While 80% of
technology providers are not profitable and go broke in less
than 3 years, our clients can take comfort in knowing
Matrixforce is financially strong and we have a business
infrastructure to provide consistent support. Your success is
our passion and we thank you for the opportunity to serve.
